To cultivate the ideal lawn, it's essential to adhere to specific guidelines for sowing grass seed.

Starting a New Lawn:

  1. Till the soil to a depth of 20 to 30 centimeters.

  2. By hand, remove any large stones and weeds.

  3. If the soil quality is subpar or uneven, supplement it with topsoil.

  4. Level the area with a rake to create a smooth seedbed.

  5. We suggest using our Pre-Seed Fertilizer at this stage.

  6. If applying fertilizer, delay seeding by one week.

  7. Evenly distribute the seeds, either manually or with a mechanical spreader.

  8. Lightly rake the seeds to ensure they are slightly covered by soil.

  9. Add a thin layer of soil on top to aid germination and prevent bird feeding.

  10. Compact the soil by walking over it or using a roller.

  11. Begin watering immediately and maintain consistent moisture until the lawn is fully grown.

  12. Allowing the seeded area to dry out can slow down the growth process.

Revitalizing an Existing Lawn:

  1. Use Weed, Feed & Moss Killer for optimal results.

  2. Post-treatment, wait eight weeks before reseeding.

  3. Rake the lawn to remove dead grass, moss, and weeds.

  4. Continue raking until the soil is loose and aerated.

  5. Reseed using the recommended rate, either by hand or with a spreader.

  6. Gently rake the seeds so they are just below the soil surface.

  7. Apply a light soil layer on top to encourage germination and deter birds.

  8. Firm the soil by walking over it or using a roller.

  9. Water the area immediately and regularly to ensure proper lawn establishment.

  10. Inconsistent watering can delay the growth process in the reseeded area.

Once you have sown your grass seed, we want to ensure you get the best possible lawn, so we have put together a quick guide of what to do for the first few weeks.

  1. Your lawn seed can take up to 6 to 8 weeks to fully establish.

  2. Remember to water your lawn well each day for those weeks.

  3. Avoid watering when continued rainfall is present.

  4. Continue until you have an even coverage throughout the lawn.

  5. Once the grass reaches 3-4 inches in height, it is ready for its first cut.

  6. Make the first cut on the highest setting to just take the top inch off.

Keeping your lawn healthy is important, and we recommend using our Seasonal Fertilisers regularly to keep the lawn green and disease and weed free.
